Breast Reduction Information
Breast Reduction procedures are becoming increasingly popular for both men and women. While breast reduction surgery
is a plastic surgery procedure, it is not
cosmetic. Breast reductions
are performed for serious medical reasons.
Both men and women undergo breast reduction
surgeries in order to correct deformities
and disproportions. Men undergo breast reduction in order to remedy a condition
known as Gynecomastia and women undergo
Reduction Mammoplasty or breast reduction in order to alleviate body pain and obtain natural looking body contours.
Gynecomastia:
Gynecomastia is a condition that currently effects
between 40 and 60 percent of all males. Male
breast reduction is a surgical option that allows
men to correct this condition. Gynecomastia
is usually caused by changes in hormones at puberty
or as an effect of aging, however, there are some
other factors that could lead to the development
of this condition. They are:
- increase in estrogen
- illegal drugs such as marijuana
- anabolic steroids
- prescription and over the counter drugs
- tumors
- disease
All of these factors have been known to cause
Gynecomastia in males. By avoiding illegal drugs
as well as prescription and over the counter ailments, you
can reduce your chances of developing this condition.
The procedure performed to reduce the male breasts
is somewhat similar to the female breast reduction
procedure. Using a scalpel, the surgeon will simply
cut out the excess glandular tissue that has formed
under the nipple; sometimes this surgery will
be performed in conjunction with liposuction to
guarantee removal of all extra tissue.
The results this procedure provides are drastic
and permanent. It usually takes up to 3 months
for the swelling to completely vanish but once
it does, patients have been very happy with
their outcome. This surgery has the potential
to radically change a patient’s features.
As long as patients keep their expectations realistic,
they will be very satisfied with their results.
Reduction Mammoplasty:
Breast Reduction or Reduction Mammoplasty is
a procedure that involves the removal of excess
tissue which can result in a
smaller, lighter breast. This surgery is most
often performed for physical relief as opposed
to aesthetic or cosmetic improvement. Patients
considering breast reduction most often have very
large breasts which are not in proportion with
the rest of their body. The excessive weight can
cause chronic back, neck and shoulder pain that
can greatly affect a woman’s daily life.
This excessive weight, if left untreated, can
even lead to skeletal deformities.
There are several techniques used for breast
reduction surgery, but the most common procedure
involves an anchor-shaped incision. This incision
circles the areola and then extends downward following
the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast.
The surgeon removes excess glandular tissue, fat
and skin, and moves the nipple and areola into
their new position.
Out of all plastic surgery procedures, breast
reduction offers the quickest visual bodily change.
Patients will feel happier and more comfortable
with their new breast size. Back, neck and shoulder
pains will disappear, clothes will fit better
and patients will find their body much more evenly
proportioned. Like all plastic surgeries, women
will need time to adjust to their new looks, but
most patients find themselves very pleased with
their results.
Breast reduction surgeries are becoming increasingly
popular for both men and women. These two reconstructive
procedures have provided relief for hundreds of
thousands of patients that have suffered from
breast irregularities. Both men and women have
been completely satisfied with their surgeries
and have been able to go on and live completely
normal, happy lives.
